Where the fixture numbers come from

The Florida Building Code, Plumbing adopts the International Plumbing Code minimum fixture table (Table 403.1) with Florida amendments. This tool applies that table's ratios by occupancy group. Totals are split roughly evenly between men and women, and urinals can replace some men's toilets in many occupancies.

Supply estimates

Supplies assume about one roll of toilet paper per person per week, three hand washes per person per day, and higher public use in restaurants and stores. Use it to budget consumables and check whether your current vendor's restocking makes sense.

Cleaning frequency

When each toilet sees more than about 50 uses per day, one nightly cleaning isn't enough to keep it presentable. That's when Tampa offices, call centers, and warehouses add a day porter.

FAQ

Common questions

How many restrooms does an office need in Florida?
Under the model plumbing table Florida uses for business occupancies, it's 1 toilet per 25 people for the first 50, then 1 per 50 after that, split between men and women. A 40-person office needs at least 2 toilets and 1 sink.
Is this an official code determination?
No. It follows the published fixture table, but your local building official decides occupant load, exceptions, single-user rooms, and family restrooms. Use it for planning and budgeting.
How often should a commercial restroom be cleaned?
Every restroom should be fully cleaned and disinfected at least once a day. Restrooms serving more than about 50 people per fixture per day usually need a midday check by a day porter.
How much toilet paper does an office use?
A common planning figure is about 1 standard roll per person per week in an office. Restaurants and retail with public use go through more.
